About myself
Partha completed his specialist training as a member of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the North East and Cardiff, before obtaining extensive oncology and research training in Manchester, to then become a Consultant Cancer and Colposcopy Lead Clinician in Durham. As part of this he completed a research MD regarding the role of p53 gene mutations in ovarian cancer, at the world-famous Christie Cancer Centre. He also completed his colposcopy accreditation for management of cervical smear abnormalities (with regular recertification 3-yearly).
To ensure the best and safest practice as a consultant, Partha completed an MSc (from the University of Surrey, Guildford) to obtain accreditation in advanced gynaecological laparoscopic surgery. He now practices in both general gynaecology and gynaecological oncology and has been revalidated by the GMC.
Partha has been the local Principal Investigator for several national research trials – with successful recruitment to agreed targets – benefitting patients who thus have a high standard of care. He is also involved in training doctors in gynaecological skills (as a member of the British Gynaecological Cancer Society Training Committee and formerly a member of the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology Certification and Training Committee). He is also one of the original senior faculty members for gynaecological surgical training at The Newcastle Surgical Training Centre in Freeman Hospital, and is currently Health education Northeast and Cumbria regional preceptor for the Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Advanced Training Skills Modules for Benign Abdominal Surgery (Open or Laparoscopic) and for Colposcopy.
This specialist gynaecological experience has given him expertise in the management of a broad range of common benign gynaecological disorders – menstrual problems, fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic pain, vulvar symptoms.
He also routinely investigates, and diagnoses suspected gynaecological cancers and performs laparoscopic surgery for pelvic cysts and endometrial cancer, as well as advising on genetic risks of cancer and performing genetic cancer risk reducing laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.
His focus is on the highest quality service for his patients and will always advocate patient choice so they can then elect for the most appropriate treatment as an individual. This may involve non-surgical or minimally invasive (or traditional open) surgical treatment relevant to each patient. Of course, as a consultant gynaecologist, Partha has his own specific scope of practice, but can advise on a relevant private or NHS specialist who can manage a particular disease or condition, when he is unable to. This way you can make a more informed judgement regarding surgical or non-surgical treatment.
As such, Partha is also very excited to offer access to the Juliet Laser which is now uniquely available only to northeast patients in his personal gynaecological practice. This treatment provides an opportunity to treat common troublesome vulval and vaginal symptoms, using a pain free and non-surgical solution.
